Ready to Rock & Race! Rock it ’til Sundown Midweek Motocross Classic – Preview

The Steel Hawk Motorcycle Club are hammering headlong into the fifth staging of their Rock it ’til Sundown Midweek Motocross Classic, which takes place at Cusses Gorse MX next Wednesday 10th August.

A rammed entry of Youth racers are set to do battle during the daytime before the big boys line up from 6pm to do battle in the Expert and Clubman classes before the cream of the crop duke it out for the Rock it ’til Sundown guitar in the Relax to Race Super Final which incorporates the UK’s only MX Joker Lane which is sponsored by Stolen BMX.

The bang-in form John Adamson, a 450 mounted Tom Grimshaw, the superfast Brad Todd, local favourite Liam Knight, MX2 hard chargers, Adam Collings and Charlie Cole, the evergreen Neville Bradshaw and comeback racer Liam Garland are expected to be the main contenders both in the Viris sponsored Expert MX1 class and the KPS Recycling Expert MX2 group and of course in the Super Final where they will be joined by the winning Clubman MX1 and MX2 riders.

Stolen BMX are also the title sponsor of the Youth event where the class winners all take home a BMX. A huge array of prizes are up for grabs for the young racers, with the UK’s powerhouse distributors, CI Sport, RaceFX, and Madison and their respective brands putting some amazing products on the line for those who do the business on the track.

A new champion is set to emerge in the Alpinestars Auto class, with last year’s champ Jett Gardiner stepping up to the Troy Lee Designs 65cc category, where he will have tough competition from last years other Auto podium dwellers Jamie Currie and Jay-J Cooper, and 2020 Auto champ Riley-Ray Barrow as well as Marty Spires who finished just off of the box in fourth in the 65’s last year.

In the Spy Small Wheel 85’s Robbie Daly will be looking to add this title to his armoury after his back-to-back TLD 65cc wins in 2019 and 2020. The competition will be hot though, and will come from last year’s 65cc runner up Olivia Reynolds and the likes of Alfie Geddes-Green, who has had a fantastic 2022 so far.

Last year’s Spy Small Wheel number 1 Drew Stock has been elevated to what looks like a mega-competitive Bell Helmets Big Wheel 85’s which is stacked with former Rock it champs of yesteryear, including 2019 65cc winner Freddie Gardiner, 2020 Small Wheel title winner Charlie Richmond as well as a whole host of riders who have made it to the RITS podium including Isaac Ash and Josh Vail.

In the RFX sponsored Rookie 125 category 2020 Big Wheel champ, Tyla Hooley will be tough to beat but comes up against stiff opposition from the likes of Harrison Greenough and Ezra Blackwell.

Over in the Seven MX backed Rookie 250’s, last year’s Big Wheel title winner Finley Evans will start among the favourites, but the field is deep, and he will have Raife Broadley, Charley Irwin, Harvey Cashmore, Hudson Roper and Josh Bassett to contend with.

Racing for the Youth riders starts in the morning and finishes in the afternoon before the Adult action begins with practice at 5pm and the first race at 6pm.

The Rock it ’til Sundown Motocross follows the Airborne Gunner Supercross, which runs the day before at the same venue with discounted spectator tickets available for this who would like to attend both and get a double fix of moto action.
